"After being frustrated by the Aquino Administration's empty promises last May 1, this recent increase in the price of LPG is another heavy burden workers and their families will have to carry. All week long prior to Labor Day, Malacanang spewed out press statements and news releases like they were carrots on a stick, hinting at positive gains for the workers. MANILA -- Gabriela Women’s Party condemned the violent eviction of the urban poor community in Laperal Compound, Guadalupe Viejo, Makati, injuring at least 19 individuals.

“Residents of Laperal Compound witnessed how the local government office views informal settlers in the city of Makati as no better than sewer rats,” Gabriela Representative Emmi De Jesus said.

On April 19, fire razed some 900 houses in Laperal Compound leaving around 2,500 families homeless.

GWP Condemns Death, Injuries and Forced Eviction of Laperal Compound Residents

Gabriela Women’s Party condemned today the violent eviction by the Makati Public Safety Office (MAPSA), the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), and the SWAT of the urban poor community in Laperal Compound, Guadalupe Viejo, Makati, resulting to the death of a child from asphyxiation and injuring at least 19 individuals.

RH Bill in LEDAC Priority is Good News

Gabriela Women’s Party Representative Luz Ilagan today said that it is indeed positive that the Aquino administration has included the Reproductive Health Bill among its priorities. “This is a welcome development. It is a go signal for both Congress and the Senate to immediately work on the passage of this bill.” Ilagan authors HB 3387 or the Comprehensive Reproductive Health Bill along with Rep Emmi De Jesus.The bill has been consolidated with similar measures and approved at the committee level.
