Militant lawmakers on Wednesday asked three Sandiganbayan justices to resign for approving the controversial plea bargain agreement entered into by former military comptroller Carlos Garcia with the Office of the Ombudsman.

Seven militant party-list congressmen on Wednesday filed House Resolution (HR) 1237 condemning the approval of the plea bargain deal and asking justices of the anti-graft court’s second division to quit their posts.  read more »

Joint hearing on ‘payola’ scandal mulled

THE House opposition party thinks there should be a joint congressional investigation on the “payola” scandal hounding the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to avoid coming up with different recommendations on the issue.

In a Senate hearing last week, former military budget officer George Rabusa revealed that military chiefs had, by tradition, received welcoming gifts and “pabaon” money upon retirement. Rabusa said former AFP Chief of Staff Angelo Reyes received P50 million of “pabaon” money when he retired in 2001.  read more »
