THE Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office should sell all the expensive sports utility vehicles that bishops returned to generate funds for poor pregnant women seeking professional prenatal care.

Gabriela Rep. Emmi de Jesus said four out of the seven vehicles that have been returned should be sold immediately.

“Assuming the cost of each SUV is at least P2 million each, the amount of P14 million can help at least 3,000 indigent pregnant women seek monthly prenatal check ups for the whole nine months of their pregnancy,” she said.

“Throughout the RH debates, the CBCP has said time and again that they are for the sanctity of life. I say, ensuring women’s full access to comprehensive health services and programs is one sure-fire way of protecting women and children’s right to life.

Pregnant indigent women need support so they can access quality prenatal care throughout the full term of their pregnancy,” De Jesus added.

De Jesus said “as the CBCP has fallen off their moral high horse, it’s about time they really consider seriously their avowed calling of helping the poor. Helping indigent pregnant women is one such practical action that will definitely mean lives saved.” (Ryan Ponce Pacpaco)
