'Probe La Salle, Dumaguete, Cebu sex scandals'
Two solons from the women’s group Gabriela on Friday filed House
Resolution 1184 calling for a probe into the proliferation of sex
videos taken without the knowledge or approval of the women.
The resolution by representatives Liza Maza and Luzviminda Ilagan wants
to expand the ongoing probe into the sex video of actress Katrina
Halili and doctor Hayden Kho to at least three other videos referred to
as the “La Salle sex scandal,” the “The Dumaguete Scandal,” and the
“Cebu Bang bang scandal.”
They said the women in all these videos were unaware that they were
videoed when they were in their intimate moments with their partners.
The Gabriela representatives are calling on three committees--public
information, civil service and professional regulation, justice—to
conduct an inquiry on how the right to privacy can be best protected in
similar cases.
These are violations of the right to privacy, the resolution said. It
cited Article 26 of the Civil Code of the Philippines, which states:
“Every person shall respect the dignity, personality, privacy and peace
of mind of his neighbors and other persons, and punishes acts that
violate privacy by private citizens, public officers, or employees or
private companies.”
The resolution also seeks to bring to justice those who are accountable for the proliferation of the videos.
The Gabriela group is assisting Halili in dealing with the controversy.
Halili has also sought the help of the National Bureau of
Investigation in making Kho pay for allegedly taking the video without
her consent.
“The impact that this brought to the women victims was so grave and damaging,” the resolution said.
In the case of the Dumaguete Scandal, which shows three unsuspecting
women in their intimate moments with their boyfriends, one of the women
tried to commit suicide while the two others left the city.
“The said sex videos have compromised not only the dignity of the
victims but the Filipino women in general both locally and at the
international level by creating an image that Filipinas are easy game
and cheap commodities,” the resolution said.
