Price control pressed
A militant lawmaker yesterday slammed the administration over the latest increase in the price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas.
Gabriela Rep. Emmi de Jesus said that it is about time President Benigno Aquino III imposed price control on basic commodities including cooking gas to lessen the burden of Filipinos.
“This recent increase in the price of LPG is another heavy burden workers and their families will have to carry,” De Jesus said.
She said the Aquino government should look for ways to lessen this burden by enforcing price control on basic commodities.
“In the light of the starkly unjust zero wage increase, the least Aquino should have done was control the prices of basic necessities, prime commodities, gasoline and petroleum products,” de Jesus said.
“Our poor families are in crisis and it is the women and children who carry this economic burden the most.
I call on Malacañang to address this situation by calling for price control on the basic necessities and commodities that the poor consume on a daily basis,” she added.
Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corp. increased by P3 per kilogram LPG prices, or P33 per 11-kg cylinder.
