Money from junk for Gabriela bet
ORDINARY folks have launched a fund-raising campaign through collection of junk from their own households to help the senatorial bid of Gabriela Rep. Liza Maza.
Fe Ramirez, a housewife from Bgy. Batasan Hills in Quezon City, said ordinary people have entered into a memorandum of agreement with Gundayao Junkshop to support Maza.
Ramirez said volunteers, supporters and friends will collect junk from their own households and communities and sell them to the junkshop to raise funds for Maza.
Upon hearing of the activity, brothers Madz and Ryan Labog, both residents of Bgy. Batasan, said that even male residents from their area are convinced that the Senate needs a courageous woman like Maza to defend women’s rights.
Those involved in the project said the move becomes a venue for them to directly participate in the entire campaign as they share a part of their daily livelihood through collecting and selling bote, dyaryo and garapa.
Volunteers will sell their junk at existing prices in the community while they voluntarily donate a portion of the amount gathered to the fund drive.
A known leader and defender of women’s rights in the Lower House, Maza has co-authored laws for women and children. Ryan Ponce Pacpaco
