MANILA, Philippines – Gabriela Women’s Party Representative Emmi De Jesus reiterated her call on the exemption of petroleum products from Expanded Value Added Tax (E-VAT).

The House Bill 4706 also pushed for the e-VAT exemption of basic necessities and prime commodities.

“Continuing price hikes, especially of oil and petroleum products, puts a heavy burden on poor families especially women as they are the ones responsible for ensuring the family welfare and managing the household budget,” said De Jesus.

The lawmaker also slammed the Aquino administration for its failure to make a move on the continuing increase of oil prices.

“As long as President Aquino coddles the interests of the oil giants, Gabriela Women’s Party will continue to voice out the demands and wishes of our marginalized women,” added De Jesus. – Shannel Tabanganay, Philstar.com Trainee.
