House approves CARP extension

Earlier, Gabriela party-list Rep. Liza Maza proposed to delete a section of the bill which allows land owners or the beneficiaries to authorize the reclassification or conversion of the land five years after the awarding of the land and after it “ceases to be economically feasible and sound for agricultural purposes” provided that the beneficiary is paid and the land is not irrigated or irrigable.

She said this would be one of the means for landowners to defeat the purpose of agrarian reform, but the majority rejected her proposed amendment.
