US-RP VFA Preys Upon Another Filipino Woman- Maza

Gabriela Women’s Party Rep. Liza Maza today urged “Vanessa,” the recently reported rape victim of another US soldier, to file a case and offered her support.

“I urge the victim to file a case, but I would understand her apprehensions given the recent outcome and ill-treatment of the Philippine government towards the case of Nicole,” Maza said.

“Our women will face more abuses as long as the US-RP VFA is in place. It is very clear that this lopsided agreement has apparently been utilized as a tool for subservience and dehumanizing crimes such as rape.

In the light of these cases of Vanessa and Nicole, the Gabriela solon also called on the Legislative Oversight on the Visiting Forces Agreement (LOVFA) to immediately conduct a hearing to pursue justice for the victims and investigate the consequences and infringement of the agreement on Philippine laws and sovereignty.
