Sluggish Justice Under Aquino Favors GMA and Ampatuans -- GWP REP. EMMI DE JESUS

“Every day that President Aquino’s administration delays the delivery of justice in relation to the Ampatuan massacre and ex-President Arroyo’s trial, he further cultivates and fosters the culture of impunity,” said GWP Rep. Emmi De Jesus as Myrna Reblando, an Ampatuan massacre widow, fled the country to seek political asylum in Hongkong for fear of her life.
Three witnesses in the Ampatuan trial which began in January 2010 have been killed to date. Thirty (30) months later, the trial continues to drag on. In the meantime, ex-President Arroyo’s trial continues to crawl at snail’s pace as she enjoys the privilege of a hospital arrest amid doubtful ill health excuses.
The Gabriela solon further stressed that “impunity thrives in the fertile soil of violence and unabated human rights violations in the Philippines. As long as the Aquino government does nothing to punish those accountable, Philippine democracy and freedom are deceptions and shadows of unrealized hopes,” ended De Jesus.###
