Rep. De Jesus to Aquino: Be as Zealous with Arroyo as You Are With Corona

“President Aquino is now perceived by women from urban poor communities as apathetic in pursuing Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s accountability for her wrongdoings as the former President. He remains silent on the non-resumption of hearings on electoral fraud filed against her, and he even backed the recommendation of the DILG and PNP that Arroyo should stay at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center for security reasons,” Rep. Emmi De Jesus of the Gabriela Women’s Party observed on the continued stay of Arroyo at the VMCC.

“So long as he remains deaf to the people’s demands for Arroyo to be tried in court for the countless human rights violations perpetuated under her watch, and other charges of graft, he becomes a perpetrator of the culture of impunity,” added the Gabriela solon.

“Shoudn't he be as zealous in pursuing GMA's accountability as he is in pushing for CJ Corona's impeachment? Or should people now start to believe that his real motive to pursue Corona's impeachment was to get back at Corona because of the Supreme Court's decision regarding the case of Hacienda Luisita which was favorable to the farmers? And that his earlier pursuit of Arroyo’s accountability was all in the name of helping boost his flagging survey ratings?” Rep. Emmi queried.

“We demand that President Aquino exercise his political will on the Arroyo case. Let justice be delivered to the victims of Arroyo’s iron hands. We demand that he exercise his power as the President of the Philippines to ask the court to resume the trial of graft cases against Arroyo instead of hearings on whether the former President must be transferred to a regular jail or not,” ended De Jesus.
