President Aquino Still Deaf to Poor Filipinos’ Economic Woes– GWP Rep. De Jesus
“Ang walang habas na pagtaas ng gasolina ay patunay na bigong-bigo ang oil deregulation law,” said GWP Rep. Emmi De Jesus as Petron Corp. announced that the prices of regular gasoline will increase by P0.60 a liter, unleaded gasoline products by 0.25 per liter, and diesel and kerosene by P0.30 per liter.
“The poor Filipino family’s burden from unabated oil price hikes is further worsened by increasing unemployment and depressed wages that do not increase at the same rate as the price of oil and petroleum products. As the Aquino administration continues to ignore the groans of the ordinary citizens, as it continues to be the mouthpiece of big oil companies, it abets the continued exploitation and abuses against our people by the big oil companies,” added the Gabriela solon.
De Jesus also noted that that during the first three weeks of January alone, local oil companies increased the prices of diesel by P2.70 per liter, regular gasoline by P2.60 per liter, unleaded gasoline by P2.20 per liter and kerosene by P2.50 per liter. She also noted that the price of oil increased four (4) times in less than twenty (20) days.
“The government seems to be using the Corona impeachment trial to cover up its own crimes against the ordinary citizens – its failure to repeal the Oil Deregulation Law and the EVAT Law that is a much too heavy cross for poor Filipinos to carry. The Aquino government pretends to be against abuses and corruption, but fails to recognize the abuses perpetrated by big oil companies,” ended De Jesus.
