Immediately Resolve Cases Against Arroyo As Sure Step to End Impunity – Gabriela Solon to Aquino Administration
“Let us not trivialize the grave abuse of office and authority that the former Gloria Arroyo is currently being charged with, by highlighting petty issues such as the authenticity of her mug shots, her supposed state of depression, and whether or not she should be pitied,” Gabriela Rep. Emmi De Jesus pointed out.
“As we pause today to remember the victims of the Ampatuan Massacre, the worst political violence against journalists orchestrated under the Arroyo regime, we also launch November 23 as the International Day to End Impunity. We reaffirm our strong resolve to push the Aquino government to deliver justice to the families of the victims and break the culture of impunity,” added the Gabriela solon as she prepares to join the march of the Ampatuan widows today.
“As long as charges against Arroyo and her cohorts remain unheard, impunity continues to thrive in the fertile soil of violence and unabated human rights violations in the Philippines. As long as the Aquino government does nothing to punish the accountable, Philippine democracy and freedom are deceptions and shadows of unrealized hopes,” added Rep. De Jesus.
The Gabriela Women’s Party solon vowed to remain vigilant until the former President is tried. “President Aquino must ensure that the wheels of justice continue to turn until she is prosecuted for the grave sins against the marginalized Filipinos that she is being charged,” ended De Jesus.
