GWP Vows Support To Victims Of Police And Military Rape; To Closely Monitor PSG Barracks Rape Case

Gabriela Women’s Party Representative Luz Ilagan expressed today her outrage as another girl cried rape in the hands of men in uniform.

This, following reports that a 15-year old girl was raped and molested by three members of the Presidential Security Group (PSG) after she was pimped by no less than the Barangay Chairman.

According to the 15-year old victim, she was raped by S/Sgt. Walter Candelaria and molested by two other men inside the PSG barracks after Bgy 637 Zone 65 Chairman Angelo Murillo sold her to the perpetrators.

“We are ready to support the victim, provide counseling and encourage her to pursue justice. We will closely monitor how the Presidential Security Group, the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the Philippine National Police and the Department of Interior and Local Government will ensure accountability against the perpetrators of this heinous acts.

"Nakahanda kaming sumuporta sa mga biktima ng karahasan at masusi kaming magbabantay,” said Ilagan.

The Gabriela solon said this is not the first time that acts of violence against women have been reported against members of the military and police.

Earlier this year, “Vanessa” filed complaints against SPO3 Antonio Bautista Jr. after she was raped inside the Manila Police District headquarters.

According to Ilagan, “Yet again, the corrupt and festering macho culture within the police and military is revealed. The heinous act of rape is aggravated when people in authority, especially public officials and men in uniform are identified as perpetrators. A thorough investigation should follow and rapists in uniform should be brought to justice.”
