GWP Rep. Emmi De Jesus to Aquino -- Assert National Interest

“Once again, the US flapped its "eagle wings" and reminded the Philippines of its place as its ‘LITTLE brown brother,’ while Malacaňang, once again displayed its political mendicancy when President Aquino showed subservience over the dispute in the West Philippine Seas,” said GWP Rep. Emmi De Jesus. This remark came on the aftermath of statements of US senators John McCain et. al, that US will "help" in bolstering the military firepower of its allies like the Philippines in relation to territorial disputes with China.

“The US' confrontation and stance of aggression with China over Spratlys will push the Philippines into a very compromising situation. I challenge President Aquino to assert national interest and take an independent stance in resolving the Spratlys dispute. We should not be bullied by these American senators who proposed the display of ‘strong military presence’ in the region,” added De Jesus.

“The United States is trying to counter the growing China influence in the Asia Pacific Region by creating powerful influence in the West Philippine Seas. This visit also points to a US shift of focus from the Middle East to the Asia Pacific Region,” explained the Gabriela solon. De Jesus also pointed out that increased US military presence in the Philippines spells for further sexual exploitation of our women.

"I urge President Aquino to stand firm on our sovereignty and refuse the continued rape and oppression of our women by foreign military forces," ended Rep. De Jesus
