GWP TO AQUINO: Repeal The Oil Deregulation Law, Nationalize the Oil Industry

In the face of another oil price hike, Gabriela Women’s Party Representative Emmi De Jesus reiterated her call to the Aquino government and the Philippine Congress for an immediate P9.00 rollback in the price per liter of oil, She likewise reiterated her call for the repeal of Oil Deregulation Law.

“The Big 3 oil companies continue to overprice oil products and the Aquino government continues to conspire with them at the expense of the poor and marginalized Filipinos. Incessant price hikes, especially of oil and petroleum products, puts a heavy burden on poor families especially women, as they are the ones responsible for managing the household budget,” explained the Gabriela solon.

“Habang hindi kumikilos si Pangulong Aquino upang mapigilan ang patuloy na pagtaas ng presyo ng gasolina, lalo lamang niyang ipinapamukha na wala siyang pakialam sa kalagayan ng masang naghihirap, at mas nakakiling ang kanyang atensyon sa interes at tubo ng malalaking kumpanya ng langis. Lalo lamang niyang pinapatunayan na ang tuwid na landas na ipinagmamalaki niya ay tuwid na landas para lamang sa mga kapitalista, at ang mamamamayang mahihirap ay mananatiling nasa gilid at madilim at baku-bakong landas ng kahirapan,” explained Rep. De Jesus.

I challenge President Aquino and the Congress to scrap the Oil Deregularization Law and start working on the nationalization of the Philippine oil industry. I know it takes strong political will to work for the interests and welfare of the people, especially the marginalized and disadvantaged majority of Filipinos. But oil is such a socially volatile product that government cannot leave its management in the hands of profit-oriented oil cartels,” De Jesus ended. ###
