Assistant Minority leader and Gabriela Women’s Party Rep. Liza Maza today rallied the support of Davaoenos to go out and register for the 2010 National Elections. With GABRIELA’s “Babae ka, may sey ka” campaign, Maza called on residents of Davao City to ensure that they can exercise their right to suffrage.
“With all the threats and schemes to derail the elections and our democratic processes, such as the seemingly orchestrated spate of bombings in Mindanao and Metro Manila, controversies hounding the poll automation, and Arroyo’s much-detested maneuvers for Con-Ass and Cha-cha, all the more that we should be on the lookout for our rights. These are dangerous times and we have to be more vigilant in ensuring that we are armed with our solid and unified stand against these threats,” Maza said.
The Gabriela solon led the roster of activities in the City-wide campaign. Liza Maza, together with Reps. Satur Ocampo and Teddy Casino of Bayan Muna, also joined the motorcade organized by women’s groups and people’s organizations. Maza also gave out leaflets, posters, stickers, and conducted market-hopping activities to personally urge residents to go out and register. She also released her own infomercial entitled “Babae ka, may sey ka”, a 17-second ad that features the essential requirements and process of registration.
Maza will be joined by Gabriela Women’s Party Rep. Luz Ilagan and Secretary General Cristina Palabay, together with women leaders in Davao City, in a women chain against Con-Ass later in the afternoon.
The woman lawmaker, in coordination with the City government of Davao, will be sponsoring a special voters’ registration tomorrow at Magsaysay Park after the motorcade.
