"It is deplorable that Speaker Prospero Nograles and Pampanga Rep. Mikey Arroyo have the gall to say that 'there's no slowing down cha-cha' while even administration allies like Miriam Defensor-Santiago, the general public and the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) are vocal in their position against charter change."

Thus Cristina Palabay said in reaction to the solons' statement yesterday, after the announcement from Kabalikat ng Mamamayang Pilipino (Kampi) that it has already gathered 167 votes from fellow congressmen in favor of the charter change.

Last August, Malacanang declared that it is "all systems go" for cha-cha. The new Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile who replaced Manuel Villar after an alleged coup is a staunch supporter of constituent assembly and even filed a resolution to pursue it.

"The con-ass game plan hatched by Arroyo and her allies will never prosper. The public clamor to stop charter change is getting stronger. The Filipino people are already aware of Arroyo's motives to extend her term and to allow foreign giant corporations without restrictions to plunder our nation's natural resources," Palabay stated.

On December 6, Gabriela Women's Party members will hang Christmas lanterns in Bgy. Batasan Hills to register its opposition against charter change.###
