Gabriela Reps. Liza Largoza Maza and Luzviminda Ilagan today filed a resolution for the House of Representatives to investigate the alleged incidents of bribery and corruption to protect President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo from impeachment raps.

House Resolution 893 cites reported incidents of alleged giving out of cash gifts in Malacanang in October 2007, with the recent admission of former Speaker Jose de Venecia of having received P500,000 that time, and the reported distribution of P500,000 on November 25, 2008 to congressional allies of President Arroyo at the Linden Suites to ensure the killing of the 2008 impeachment complaint against the President.

"There is a need for Congress to conduct a full-blown investigation on this matter for it casts serious doubts on the integrity of the lawmakers. As long as this issue remains unresolved, their integrity is tarnished," Maza said.

"All the issues of bribery and corruption laid during the impeachment hearings have never been refuted by Pres. Arroyo's allies. With the junking of the impeachment complaint, questions on the truth behind the allegations of bribery remain," Maza stated. ###
