Assistant Minority Leader and Gabriela Women’s Party Rep. Liza Maza today condemned the spate of bomb attacks in some parts of Mindanao and Metro Manila and called for an immediate and independent investigation on these incidents.
“Ordinary people are being killed and terrorized in these schemes. We do not want to think that these strings of bomb-related incidents are being orchestrated as a prelude for Malacanang to declare a State of Emergency and prolong Arroyo’s stay beyond 2010. The safety of our people should never be used as a "collateral damage" to serve for the power-hungry,” Maza said.
The Gabriela solon called on the people to be more vigilant at these times as anything
could be possible as Arroyo’s final countdown begins in Malacanang.
“PGMA and her allies should be reminded that the Filipino people will never allow any form of Martial rule and any scheme to perpetuate herself further in power,” Maza stressed.
The Gabriela solon also warned authorities who right away pointed the blame to Muslim rebels saying that this will only worsen the situation.
Maza also expressed her deepest sympathy and vowed to help the families of the victims in seeking justice. It was reported that the bomb explosion in Cotabato killed 5 people and wounded about 45 civilians. Last week, an improvised explosive device also exploded at the premises of the Office of the Ombudsman in Quezon City and C-4 bombs were also found at the Department of Agriculture and outside a condominium building along Katipunan Avenue in Quezon City the following day.
