Gabriela Women’s Party Representative Luz Ilagan lauded today the Davao City local government for spearheading an ordinance that will help facilitate Davaoeños’ access to various reproductive healthcare services, including the free distribution of condoms to its constituents under the program of the League of Cities of the Philippines. “In the midst of heated debates on the need for a national policy of reproductive health, local governments that are ready to address the needs of their constituents on the ground bring the advocacy for women’s full access to reproductive health a step forward.” Ilagan, an author of the Reproductive Health Bill and herself a Davaoeña said the City of Davao has long been a leader in implementing pro-women ordinances. “This is indeed a very positive step towards making sure that the needs of women and men in terms of reproductive health and fertility management are addressed. This ordinance will also help prevent the spread of sexually transmitted infections and HIV-AIDS. We hope that other cities will soon follow,” said Ilagan. ###
