"After being frustrated by the Aquino Administration's empty promises last May 1, this recent increase in the price of LPG is another heavy burden workers and their families will have to carry. All week long prior to Labor Day, Malacanang spewed out press statements and news releases like they were carrots on a stick, hinting at positive gains for the workers. Come May 1, President Aquino came up empty-handed, exposing himself to the workers as a President who is more sensitive to the interest of big business. In the light of the starkly unjust zero wage increase to this day, the least Aquino should have done was to control the prices of basic necessities, prime commodities, gasoline and petroleum products," expressed the frustrated Gabriela Rep. Emmi de Jesus.

"Our poor families are in crisis and it is the women and children who carry this economic burden the most. I call on Malacanang to address this situation by calling for a price control on the basic necessities and commodities that the poor consume on a daily basis. What is government there for, if it cannot protect the poorest of its citizens?" challenged Rep. De Jesus in ending.###
