Aquino Exhibits Penchant for Short-Sighted Solutions in Pantawid Pasada cards and the CCT –GWP Rep. Emmi De Jesus

"To solve poverty, Aquino mistakenly supposes the CCT program is the answer. In believing that reloading the Pantawid Pasada cards, the President once again exhibits its penchant for short-sighted solutions to the unabated oil price hikes.” said GWP Rep. Emmi De Jesus on the President’s plan to reactivate the fuel subsidy.

Shell, Petron and Chevron increased their diesel, gasoline and kerosene prices by P1 per liter, and Eastern Petroleum increased gasoline prices by P1.75 per liter and diesel by P1.50 per liter.

“Big oil companies, aided and abetted by the President, are exploiting the tension in Iran to jack up the price of oil and rake in massive profits at the expense of the poor who can ill-afford another price hike,” stressed the Gabriela solon.

“Oil is such a crucial and socially volatile product, requiring government to create strong and long-term mechanisms that will truly protect the people from the impact of oil price hike. It takes a strong political will to work for the interests and welfare of the people, especially for the marginalized and disadvantaged majority of the Filipino. If the President cannot repeal the Oil Deregulation Law and work on the development of a national oil industry, he obviously does not deserve the confidence of those who mistakenly voted for him,” De Jesus ended.
