"Increasing the price of LPG due to higher acquisition costs and supply tightness is a lame excuse by Shell and Petron. Indeed, this is another burden passed on to the poor Filipino families who have always put up with the brunt of this crisis," said Gabriela Women's Party Rep. Liza Maza.

The Gabriela solon today questioned the transparency of these oil companies as they imposed the P2 a kilogram price hike of cooking gas. "It has been so convenient for Shell, Petron and other oil companies to increase prices anytime they want. Undeniably, they are already mounting more profit at the expense of the impoverished consumers."

According to Maza, these oil companies are trying to condition the minds of the public for more price hike trends given these phony excuses. Previously, Maza and Ilagan filed House Resolution No. 697 directing the House Committee on Trade and Industry to look into the apparent inutility of the government's system of price monitoring and control in the light of exorbitant increases in prices of basic and prime commodities.

"It is high time to seriously establish effective mechanisms to restrain the skyrocketing prices of basic and prime commodities. It
should be the priority of this government to ensure the availability of basic necessities at reasonable prices at all times. Primarily,
consumers should be protected against all forms of profiteering, hoarding and cartel," Maza stressed. #
