Gabriela Women’s Party Representative Liza Maza today scored the planned P25M fund for random drug testing in high school dubbing it as “expenditure for the violation of rights.”
Maza said, “Why dish out 25 M on a move that will not even make a dent on the systemic drug problem and worse, will result to the violation of students’ rights to privacy and self incrimination?”

According to Maza, P25M, could actually buy an estimated 400,000 textbooks or even build 50 classrooms.

“Considering the shortages in books, chairs, classrooms and teachers, this fund is better spent for the improvement of our public school system. Why not properly equip our public schools so that they may be able to find mechanisms that can best steer our youth away from illegal drugs, without resorting to random drug testing? It would be best to reconsider this proposed drug testing before implementation.”
